YOUR FIRST DAY AT ALI

1) ARRIVAL at ALI

After your journey to Montreal is complete, we will be waiting to receive you at your new school. You will arrive at ALI at your scheduled appointment time, or at 8:00 am if you don’t have one. At the school, you will be greeted by several staff members in the student lounge, where you can meet other new students and enjoy some refreshments.

2) WRITTEN AND ORAL PLACEMENT TESTS

It is our goal to make sure you are receiving language education that is suited to your needs. Part of this requires you to be in the correct level for your current knowledge of the language. Our level testing process is designed to place you in the class that’s right for you. When you register, our International Student Registrar invites you to complete the online written placement test before you arrive at the school. This way, when you arrive at ALI, you just have to do the oral placement test, which lasts about 15 minutes.

3) MEETING WITH OUR PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Once you have done your oral placement test, you will meet with our Program Coordinator who will give you our student handbook and explain your study program in detail and help you select the right course options for you. You will have the chance to ask any questions regarding your academics at ALI and school policies that can help you understand how things work at ALI. After you will be given a school tour to familiarize yourself with our school.

4) Group and INDIVIDUAL MEETING WITH OUR HOMESTAY COORDINATOR

If you are participating in our homestay program, as a group you will meet our Homestay Coordinator on your first day and later on in the week on an individual basis. This is to make sure you are 100% satisfied with your accommodations. You will also get tips and suggestions on how to make your experience the best it can be.

5) ORIENTATION

Your first day at ALI will be spent gathering information and familiarizing yourself with the school. You will meet the administrative team who will be supporting you throughout your time at ALI. After orientation, our Activities Coordinator leads the new students on a walking tour of downtown Montreal. This will give you the chance to orient yourself with the surroundings of your new school and learn how to get around. The afternoon is your free time. You can use this time to go to the bank, change money, or take care of other important tasks. Your classes will begin on Tuesday.

6) TUESDAY MORNING

English (ESL) students start their courses at 8:30 am, and French (FSL) students start their courses at 8:25 am.
